Q: What is Ayurveda?
A: 'Ayurveda' which translates to Life science/ Life knowledge is a comprehensive system of nature-based medicine originating from India.
The oldest form of continuously practised medicine in the world, it has continued to evolve through the centuries.
At its basis, Ayurveda sees every human being as a unique blend of the elements- air and space (which form the energy of vata dosha) fire and water (which form the energy of pitta dosha) and earth and water (Which form the energy of kapha dosha).
We all have all three doshas in different proportions in our bodily constitution.
When the doshas are in equilibrium as per one's constitution, a person is healthy. When this balance is disturbed, 'dis'ease occurs.
Ayurveda aims to restore optimal balance for each person, supporting longevity and graceful living.
As each person's constitution, environment, history, imbalances, life stage etc. is unique, treatment is tailored individually.
Q: I've just scheduled my first consultation- What should I expect?-
A: Once you have scheduled your appointment, I'll send you my health Intake form to complete.
Using the form as a starting point in the session, Together we explore your concerns against the background of your health history and lifestyle.
Whether you have any familiarity with Ayurveda or not, it doesn't matter.
We will start from where you are.
I ask about habits, daily rhythms, food. I read your pulse and do an Ayurvedic assessment of tongue, skin, nails, hair.
We will talk through some ideas on food/ fluid intake, perceptions, gauge where you are at with your digestion, metabolism and current imbalances.
I support with guidance and resources around food, holistic habits, lifestyle (exercise/ sleep/ stressors/).
I help you work with Ayurvedic herbs and bespoke herbal blends which is a valuable part of this process.
We may go into options for practices like yoga/ breathwork.
If you are interested in Bodywork, we can discuss a plan/ package or stand-alone appointments.
Since Ayurvedic treatments are not one-size-fits-all and there can be different combinations, I don't have too many standard packages at this time.

Q: What happens next?
A. At the end of an appointment, you will have some action points to work on.
My contribution +Your determination = A positive process :)
I will likely recommend a brief follow up for several weeks after your first appointment to check on progress and make adjustments if any...
When you start out, making even one tiny change in your life can
a.) feel incredibly hard
b.) have a huge positive impact on your health and quality of life.
I hold this process with sensitivity;
Ayurveda is a journey; Sincere effort is needed, and at the same time it's important to be easy on yourself.
I'm here to work with you on an ongoing basis.
The interplay of the body& mind plays a vital role in nurturing good health.
In my own life I see the cultivation of self-care and positive states of peace, inspiration& joy as the the foundation for longevity and good health.
Does following Ayurveda mean I have to give up eating meat?
No. This is a common myth. The benefits of eating meat especially for those in need of strengthening, having generalized weakness or hyper-metabolism are well detailed in Ayurveda. Many traditional Ayurvedic internal and external remedies are made with meat. Meat eating is a nuanced choice depending on factors such as one's digestive capacity, cultural background, the nature and quality of meat in consideration etc. Ayurveda stresses the importance of balanced and responsible consumption of meat.
